Please read carefully.
This Pranayama Workshop with Swami Karunananda was originally presented during a retreat of Yoga teachers in 2008. It offers a comprehensive overview on the subject of pranayama as practiced in the Integral Yoga tradition.
The practices presented here are powerful, working with the subtle energy of the body. All guidelines should be strictly followed. This material is meant to guide the student over a period of many months, if not years, of regular practice. As Swami Karunananda emphasizes, students should never strain or hurry in the practice of pranayama. Proceed at a comfortable pace, building slowly over time, and with regular practice the benefits will come naturally. Please refer to “Part 17: Exercising Care with Breath Retention” for more guidance on building a responsible practice of pranayama.
Students with health issues or questions are strongly encouraged to seek the guidance of a qualified teacher before proceeding. It may be advisable to consult their physician as well. Students experiencing any effects that cause concern should stop at once and seek proper guidance.
*The important practice of Nadi Suddhi, alternate nostril breathing, is not included in the recording of this workshop, likely due to a technical oversight. However, guidance for this essential practice will be shared at a later time.
